2022 Durell Vineyard Chardonnay
TASTING NOTES
This historic vineyard in the Sonoma Valley grows Chardonnay as intriguing as it is exquisite, and 2022 is no exception. Rich, layered aromas of lime zest, stone fruits, and white blossoms leap from the glass and envelop the olfactory senses. The intense concentration of pomelo, lemon pith, and shortbread flavors are beautifully balanced by the medium-full body and ample, mineral acidity of the wine, a sensuous joy lingering long after the sip. With so much to offer now, even more will be revealed with aging if you can wait that long.
VINEYARD NOTES
Originally planted in 1979 by Ed Durell, this famous vineyard is in the southwestern foothills of the Sonoma Valley, north of the San Pablo Bay and east of the Petaluma Wind Gap. The site is moderated by the Bay and Pacific Ocean effects, making it ideal for cool-climate Chardonnay. Our block of Chardonnay is planted to an Old Wente selection, and the rocky, volcanic soils at Durell Vineyard create a challenging environment for the vines’ root system, yielding very small grape clusters that have tremendous concentration and power.
