2022 Thorn Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes
Making its inaugural release, our Thorn Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir offers an expressive introduction to a site defined by savory nuance and aromatic lift. The nose is highly perfumed, layering boysenberry and cranberry with damp earth, savory jam, and fresh thyme and sage - evoking a just-tended garden. On the palate, black cherry and tart red fruit are framed by cedar and earthy undertones, with softer acidity lending a supple, approachable texture. Savory, grounded, and ready to enjoy.
Vineyard Notes
Located in the Sebastopol Hills within the western edge of the Russian River Valley AVA, Thorn Ridge Vineyard was planted in the mid-1990s and is farmed by Ted Klopp and his family. The vineyard sits on a steep east-facing slope of Goldridge sandy loam soils and experiences strong maritime influence from the nearby Pacific Ocean. The cool climate, morning sun exposure, and frequent coastal fog allow for slow ripening and excellent acidity, producing Pinot Noir with concentrated dark berry flavors, spice, and notable structure.
