Meet The Gary Farrell Team GENERAL MANAGEMENT
Nancy Bailey, General Manager Nancy Bailey

Born in Syracuse, New York, Nancy spent a good portion of her school years overseas in England. Her interest in food and wine was sparked by family travels abroad throughout her childhood. After attending college and graduate school back in the States (she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in government from Hamilton College and a Master of Arts degree in international relations from The Fletcher School at Tufts University), Nancy ventured to California where she discovered a true passion for wine country living. She lent her many marketing talents to such well-known brands as Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards & Winery, Champagne Perrier Jouët, and Kendall-Jackson. Her creativity and communication acumen placed her in high demand when she went on to work as a freelance marketing consultant for a number of Sonoma County wineries. Before accepting her current role at Gary Farrell in November 2011, Nancy was General Manager of Wine Creek LLC (Quivira Vineyards & Winery, La Follette Wines and Torbreck Vintners) for 4 years. Nancy lives in Sebastopol with her husband and two young children.

Alyson White, Direct to Consumer Manager

Born and raised in San Diego, California, Alyson White earned a BA in Spanish from Humboldt State University. But a passion for wine led her to Sonoma County, where she embarked upon her career at Belvedere Winery in Healdsburg, then moved on to Imagery Estate Winery in Glen Ellen. She then spent ten years at Francis Ford Coppola Winery in the Alexander Valley, overseeing their tasting room, wine club, e-commerce, hospitality and events. She is excited about the opportunity to apply her experience in the smaller, hands-on environment at Gary Farrell Winery. Alyson lives in Windsor with her husband and two children.

Kila Gomer, Wine Club Manager

Born in Kodiak, Alaska, Kila moved with her family to the wine country at a young age. Growing up along the Russian River, in the quaint town of Forestville, vineyards and wineries were always close at hand. After graduating from Santa Rosa Junior College, Kila went into the construction supply industry, spending more than eight years developing her expertise in the field of construction signage and regulations. After deciding to explore her passion for wine and knack for customer service, Kila switched careers and joined the Gary Farrell team in April 2013, and enjoys the opportunity to work directly with Grand Crew wine club members. Kila resides with her husband in Santa Rosa, and in her spare time pursues her interests in art, camping, hiking and all things outdoors.

Vernon Bratton, Private Client Liaison

After spending more than a decade in the beauty business, Vernon Bratton turned his love of fine wine into a fulfilling career, beginning in Napa Valley before joining the Gary Farrell team in 2014 as our Private Client Liaison. Vernon’s knowledge of winegrowing regions and esteemed producers around the world makes him an excellent resource to our members, friends and fans. Vernon enjoys personally assisting our customers with all their wine questions, and is a wealth of information for those looking to acquire Gary Farrell’s limited-production wines for their cellars.

Brian Shapiro, Tasting Room & Business Development Manager

For Brian, wine is more than a career path, it is a lifestyle that has led him from the beaches of Southern California to the heart of wine country. A passion for design, architecture and all things culinary continues to fuel his desire to create a balanced life that takes advantage of the diversity of Sonoma County. After returning to school and receiving a degree in winery operations and production from Sonoma State University, he chose to spend the majority of his direct-to-Consumer career with a boutique Cabernet producer in Alexander Valley. But a chance encounter in 2009 with a 2006 Gary Farrell Pinot Noir had already planted the seeds of passion for Pinot in his soul. Weekend trips to the coast have included the search for the perfect bottle of Pinot Noir and continued visits to Gary Farrell Winery cemented his desire to work in Russian River Valley. In the spring of 2016 he was able to fulfill that dream and joined our team. Brian brings a talent for telling a story and a desire to share the approachable elegance of Russian River Pinot Noir with all who will listen. When he is not singing the praises of balanced fruit-driven wines, you’ll find Brian working on his small hobby ranch with his wife Catherine raising heritage breed goats, making cheese or motoring along the road less traveled and enjoying the bounty of his adopted county.

Theresa Heredia, Winemaker

Theresa Heredia joined Gary Farrell Winery team as winemaker in May of 2012. Theresa earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, before becoming a Ph.D candidate in chemistry with an emphasis in enology at U.C. Davis. She left the program to follow her calling as a hands-on winemaker. Coming off a long stint as winemaker at Freestone Vineyards in Sonoma County, Heredia brings considerable experience working with cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and small-lot, single-vineyard wines. During her tenure at Freestone, Heredia’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay brought the Joseph Phelps-owned winery significant critical acclaim. In early 2012 she was named “Winemaker to Watch” by the San Francisco Chronicle, reflecting her interest in wines that offer a pure expression of their vineyard site and her willingness to experiment with different winemaking techniques.

Brent McKoy, Assistant Winemaker

After earning a BA in English at East Carolina University, Brent took the long road to winemaking working first in the Art Industry, then as a Landscaper, all while managing to travel throughout Scandinavia, East Asia and Eastern Europe, where he developed an abiding passion for wine. When he returned home, he joined the wine industry at Robert Mondavi Winery in Oakville, where he trained hands-on throughout the lab and cellar. Brent joined Gary Farrell Winery in 2005 working in the cellar. He quickly worked his way up to Cellar Master, and eventually Assistant Winemaker. He works closely with Theresa Heredia, and is responsible for all day-to-day production operations and manages the production staff. A native of North Carolina, Brent now lives in Windsor with his wife and two young daughters.

Mark Osborne, Enologist

Educated in Australia, Mark earned a Diploma in Winemaking form the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE as well as a Bachelors of Applied Science (Wine Science) from Charles Sturt University. He began his career at The Scotchmans Hills Group in Geelong as a Cellar Hand, then worked various cellar positions in Geelong and the Mosel Valley before taking the position of enologist at Naturaliste Vintners in Margaret River. A stint at Gary Farrell Vineyards as a harvest intern in 2007 had Mark looking to make the move to California, and he joined the Gary Farrell staff as an enologist in July of 2009. He took a brief leave of absence to work as an enologist in Australia’s Yarra Valley before returning to our cellar.

Laurence Donald, Cellar & Vineyard Assistant

Born in Canada to Kiwi parents, Laurence spent the majority of his youth living in San Francisco, and was first exposed to vineyards and wine on yearly family wine tasting outings to the Napa Valley. After graduating from Sonoma State University, he pursued a successful career in finance, but eventually gave it up and headed back to graduate school to answer the call of the vines. After earning a Viticulture/Enology degree at Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand, he spent several years globetrotting and pursuing harvests in Australia and New Zealand, returning locally to work with Merry Edwards and Thomas Brown before settling in with Theresa, Brent, and Mark at Gary Farrell in May 2013. Laurence lives in Calistoga and holds dual citizenship in the US and New Zealand.

RECENT REVIEWS Trip Advisor | April 2017 | 5/5 Stars “Great Tasting Experience”What a great wine tasting experience. They are remodeling their tasting room and they have set up these great tents for tasting. They are beautiful, comfortable and give you a wonderful tasting experience in a beautiful setting. Highly recommend it. Trip Advisor | April 2017 | 5/5 Stars “World Class Wines and Wine Country Experience”Gary Farrell delivers the quintessential Sonoma wine country experience: world class pinot noir and chardonnay wines, personable and professional service and in a beautiful setting (cannot wait to see the renovated tasting room this summer!). Call ahead to reserve a wine tasting. Trip Advisor | March 2017 | 5/5 Stars “Perfect Wine Tasting Experience”The location is breathtaking and the gorgeous weather made the scenery even more spectacular! The glamping tents were super fun and I can't wait to return when the full renovation is complete. Our host, Pierre, was excellent - very knowledgeable and professional yet down to earth and engaging. I joined a party of 4 and I believe everyone had a memorable experience. Trip Advisor | March 2017 | 5/5 Stars “A Must for Wine tasting”This was the second visit we had made for the wine tasting, we were absolutely impressed!!! The staff was very friendly and made the tour worth all of our time!! Trip Advisor | March 7, 2017 | 5/5 Stars “Wine tasting Excellence”I am a member of this winery but they do require a reservation if you come outside of the pick-up parties. Not knowing what to expect, we made the reservation. Think more of a class session with amazing wines and your very own sommelier. He took a great amount of time with us and helped to guide me and my wife, with a map, as to the regions of Northern California wine that we prefer, based on taste. What a gift! Would visit again for this special trip. The building is under construction right now but we were assured it would be completed before summer. The view is spectacular too. Love, love, love this winery. Trip Advisor | February 21, 2017 | 5/5 Stars “Excellent wine in a beautiful region”Of the 30 or so wineries we have tried in Sonoma, Gary Farrell has the strongest across the board line up of Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Their current release shows the exceptional, fruit driven range of the region. A must hit in the Russian River Valley. The only downside is that they only offer a limited number of reservations, so plan ahead! Trip Advisor | February 7, 2017 | 5/5 Stars “Magical Wine Tasting”Although Gary Farrell is under a renovation, they have substituted their beautiful tasting room with intimate and magical tasting tents with beautiful views of their property. You almost feel like you are on a wine tasting safari. The tasting is elegant and rustic at the same time, just perfect. The fur blankets and heaters ensures even the highest maintenance guest cannot complain. The wine is delicious as ever, and the staff is beyond knowledgeable but also fun. Make sure you visit before the renovation is done to experience this very unique tasting Trip Advisor | January 5, 2017 | 5/5 Stars “Best wine, great ambiance!.”My husband and I visited on the weekend to Sonoma. We were referred by a friend. The winery tasting room is actually under construction but it did not hinder our experience one bit. We sat in a semi private beautiful, heated platform tent. Having been to many wineries over the last five years, we were very impressed with the entire wine tasting experience. Our guide was very informative and pleasant and the wines were just delightful! We can't wait to go back once the wine tasting room is finished. We have become members and can't wait to open our next battle ! Yelp | October 25, 2016 | 5/5 Stars “Superb tour and history of the winery.”Superb tour and history of the winery. I really appreciated all of the details about the vineyards they choose and the processes they go through. The storage area was immaculate and you could just feel the passion that goes into creating great wines. The tasting room was top notch and I loved getting to converse with the other people on our tour, finding out what they like and where they were from. Best of all were the views from the tasting area. The weather was overcast and cool, giving it an ethereal feel. I would love to take an evening tour sometime, I'm sure that's even more breathtaking. Trip Advisor | September 15, 2016 | 5/5 Stars “The Most Beautiful View in Wine Country.”If you are looking for an amazing tasting experience that combines very special wine with an unparalleled view -- go to Gary Farrell. Perched atop a hill overlooking the Russian River Valley, this is a fantastic break from some of the busier wineries in Sonoma and Napa. Quiet, peaceful, and with amazing wine. It's a truly special place. Trip Advisor | August 24, 2016 | 5/5 Stars “Expensive, but worth it.”This is the most beautiful tasting room and terrace that I have seen. It is way up a hill overlooking the valley. It is designed for the views which are fantastic. You can sit outside or inside at the bar and taste first class wines, but take your time as you enjoy the scenery because it is expensive and you will probably need a reservation. Trip Advisor | July 11, 2016 | 5/5 Stars “Another successful wine pick up”Gary Farrell is always a great stop. I live close enough to pick up and look forward to it with each shipment. I love that I can customize my wine club shipments and have not had a problem scheduling a terrace tasting. The employees are knowledgeable and friendly. The view is spectacular and the wine never disappoints. Yelp | June 7, 2016 | 5/5 Stars “Loved all that we tried”Have visited 6 wineries / tasting rooms this week. This is the only one that I am reviewing. VIEW-unreal. Simply stunning view. WINE-loved all that we tried. Big fan of lower alcohol wines because I like to actually taste the fruit. HOST(ESS)-Lydia was fantastic. Very friendly and enjoyed conversing with her and the others. Trip Advisor | May 11, 2016 | 5/5 Stars “Tasting at Gary Farrell Winery”The tasting experience at Gary Farrell is fantastic! The tasting was beautifully laid out in a private room. And, our "host" was extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful, and accommodating. Every part of the experience was a wonderful wine journey. Unforgettable!
