RECENT REVIEWS Trip Advisor | February 8, 2013 | 5/5 Stars "great views, solid wines, terrific staff"If you are visiting the sonoma wine country, this is a definite must stop. The terrace over looks the redwood covered hills. Gary Farrell has one of the best Chardonnays I have ever tried (2010 Rochioli) and their pinot noir's are excellent. The staff are friendly, unpretentious, and just a lot of fun. Especially Diana. This woman knows wine. I learned so much from asking her questions, chatting about food pairings, learning about how climates of the area affects specific varietals. She has an east coast sense of humor (witty and sharp) with west coast warmth. She recommended the Rochioli chard as a pairing for that night's dinner, and she was right. Both the wine and food enhanced each other. If the $25 tasting fee for the terrace is too steep for you, you can get one for $15 inside. Either way, I am sure you will enjoy their wines.Yelp! | January 14, 2013 | 4/5 Stars"Great place to start on a tour of the Russian River Valley" Very hospitable tasting room with a staff that is eager to please. The winery cat was sunning itself on the bar, which was charming. Wines are served at the right temperature -- when does that happen? Enjoyable wines, great view and a piece of Russian River wine history. Great place to start on a tour of the Russian River Valley.Trip Advisor | October 30, 2012 | 5/5 Stars "Chardonnay Lovers Listen Up!" What an Awesome Winery! I had heard great things about Gary Farrell Winery and I’m a huge Chardonnay lover so I was really looking forward to my visit. I went to the winery this past weekend and given that it was the last beautiful weekend in October, I took the opportunity to enjoy a tasting on the terrace. Terrace tastings are $25 and even though the winery doesn’t waive fees with a purchase, it’s definitely worth the money for the wine, hospitality and, of course, the view. I even got to taste two limited wines that aren't on the regular menu. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable; I loved talking with them. It was such a wonderful experience to enjoy amazing wines (my favorite was the 2009 Keefer Ranch Chardonnay) amidst a breathtaking Russian River Valley background. I can't wait to go back and bring my friends.Trip Advisor | October 28, 2012 | 4/5 Stars "What a view & complimented with great wines."We've been a Gary Farrell fan for several years especially liking his pinot noirs. It was with great anticipation that we shared a terrace tasting tour. Since it was a slow Thursday afternoon, the staff gladly accommodated our shared request and understood the importance of pacing yourself. The tasting started with a nice Russian River sauvignon Blanc that had crisp citrus & apricot flavors. The next wine was the Rochioli Chardonnay. I was interested in trying this wine as I'm a big fan of Rochioli. It was a great Chard, but a little over the top with strong butterscotch flavors. From there we tried two pinots. The only wine I purchased was the Pinot from the Hallberg vineyard. Truly an exceptional pinot with nice cherry fruit, low acid & soft tannins. The tasting concluded with an excellent Zin. We had a great server who knew her stuff. I highly recommend the terrace tasting on a slow day. It was a perfect setting The terrace overlooks the vineyards & Russian river, with nice flower gardens in the foreground actively worked by hummingbirds, soaking up the October sun while sipping Gary Farrell wines. Nice. Yelp! | September 17, 2012 | 5/5 Stars"We had such a fabulous experience!" My boyfriend and I dedicated an afternoon to wine tasting in the Russian River Valley this past weekend and visited the Gary Farrell Winery & Tasting room toward the end of our day. We had such a fabulous experience! We got there a bit late - around 3:45 - so we just opted for a regular tasting. (Note to self: will need to go back to get the patio tasting that involves sitting on the patio and taking in the killer view while the wines are served to you.) Tim poured for us and his excellent customer service was such a nice contrast to the sterile atmosphere and borderline unfriendly service at a tasting room we visited earlier in the day. Not only was he really knowledgeable about the wines, but he chatted us up quite a bit which made everything a bit more relaxed and enjoyable. He also had some great pairing suggestions - Chardonnay with caramel corn? ABSOLUTELY. My boyfriend is new to wine tasting, so the unpleasant experience we had earlier in the day really put a bad taste in his mouth, but when we left Gary Farrell, I could tell he saw that tasting rooms are friendly and fun as long as the people working there are too. He can't wait to go back and neither can I! Yelp! | August 21, 2012 | 5/5 Stars "It was well worth the trip to taste their delicious Pinot Noir" We drove to Gary Farrell and the Russian River Valley for the day from Rutherford. It was well worth the drive! The view from the patio was fantastic and very relaxing. We opted for the patio tasting, which we were told included one more wine than the indoor tasting and was $25 instead of $15, but it actually included two more wines. Taylor gave the tasting and was very knowledgeable about the wines and about Healdsburg, in general. It was well worth the trip to taste their delicious Pinot Noir. Save some extra time to do this tasting if you want to sit outside and take in the view.
