SITE DESCRIPTION
Originally settled by an Italian family in the late 1800s, Grist Vineyard (formerly known as Bradford Mountain) is now owned by the Hambrecht family. Located on the northwestern side of Dry Creek Valley at about 1,000 feet elevation, the site’s volcanic, red soils are reminiscent of Tuscany’s terra rosa. The Zinfandel vines are thought to be from the “mother” blocks planted in 1900 to the Hambrecht/Mead Atlas Peak clone.
FRUIT CHARACTER
Zinfandel: Complex, aromatic and intense, dark fruit aromas of blackberry and Marion berry with layers of cardamom, Asian spices and robust tannins

Wine Enthusiast
"Intensely dense and feral, this wine opens with a thicket of tart cherry and strawberry, followed by leathery black pepper and lavender. Medium in body and acidity, it works for the table, finding balance as it goes, before a rich taste of toffee finishes things off." – V.B., May 2016

International Wine Review
"Brilliant, medium dark red. Showing an intriguing bouquet of garrigue and a mix of red and black berries, the Grist Vineyard Zin has a silky, soft attack. It reveals a medium plus weighted palate of fresh ripe red and black raspberries with hints of dried herbs and cinnamon stick. With bright acidity and fine honed tannins, this is a youthful wine that has the capacity to age, if one can resist drinking it now. The fruit comes from a 30 acre block on Bradford Mountain planted in 1974 at 1000’ altitude." – September 2015

Wine Spectator
"Grabs you with appealing aromas of floral black cherry and licorice, then opens to complex, well-focused flavors of raspberry, toffee and fresh pepper. Lingers on the finish with firm but ripe tannins. Drink now through 2022." – T.F., January 2016
