2004 Zinfandel - Dry Creek Valley / Dry Creek Selection

GRAPE SOURCE
Sawyer Vineyard (100%), a property on the northwestern side of Dry Creek Valley that was planted in the early 70’s. The Dry Creek Valley is probably best known for its Zinfandel vineyards. This area has less fog influence than the Russian River Valley. The slightly higher temperatures and increased sunlight hours result in wonderfully ripe grapes brimming with sweet fruit.
WINEMAKING
Gary chose to use the fruit from this highly regarded Dry Creek Valley property exclusively. It is harvested from old head-pruned vines that produce low quantities of grapes with a high intensity of flavor. Our style focuses on producing full-flavored wines, which are true to the varietal and favor elegance, finesse and balance over huge extraction, high tannin and excessive alcohol. In this wine, the deep, impressively concentrated fruit sits at center stage. This would be a great candidate for medium to long-term aging.
WINEMAKER'S NOTES
Forward aromas of juicy blackberries, wild blueberries and notes of clove on the nose. Classic peppery spice and toasty oak enhance the bright, abundant fruit flavors. It possesses structure, complexity and balance. This full- bodied wine has a dense mouthfeel, bright fruit and soft tannins, promising a lengthy future. Truly one of our most exciting vintages. Delicious!
